My anchor now sits at the bottom of Lake Erie. I was a good Danforth with about 4 ft of chain and about 200 ft of 3/8" anchor liine. For use on a 1998 Wellcraft 240 SE, what do you suggest as a replacement and from where? We usually are on Upper Niagara River ans western basin of Lake Erie. It held well, except in heavy wind over a mud/sand/weed bottom, it used to drag sometimes. From what my son said, it must've caught on rocks or something - he is a good boatman, it happens. But now he'll gladly pay for replacement, but I gotta get it - he's working out of town - yep, he's working...

What weight was the Dansforth? You're at the upper end of the 8lb Dansforth capacity, so 16lb may be more appropriate given your conditions. 4 ft of chain doesn't seem like enough. I would double that at least.

Wish I had weighed the old one before it went to stay in its new home. Definitely more than 8 lbs, likely in the lower teens. Again, I'm guessing the chain was 4 ft. and agree it should be more. Thanks for the input - all input is most welcome.

An anchor manufacturer will suggest an anchor size for your boat. Adjust up a size if you are unsure. I would recommend 1/2" twisted nylon line with some chain.

If you look around on the net, you can find all prices for the line.
