anchor well latch?

I have a 14' lund with a diamond plate casting deck and the anchor well. every time i hit a wave the hatch bangs on any idea of a cheap simple latch to keep it secure? heres a pic of the setup. also a side question it has a real faded look to it and i noticed when i had a deep cycle up front for the trolling motor where the battery had been was a whiteish/greyish blob and when removed was shiny new looking metal. any ideas on that?

How about glue on magnetic strips, usually available in hobby or craft stores.

the latch is only for pulling it up dosent actually latch to anything. i bought the boat with the deck, personally i wouldn't have gone the diamond plate route myself but I'm not about to add a plywood deck
