Re: anchoring a speed boat
Bolt a single cleat to the center of the bow deck, nearest to the bow. If you bolt it side to side, it looks good and doubles as a handle to help pull the bow up onto the beach. Since it is close to the bow, the line will not chafe the fiberglass hull.
yep, i don't have a cleat, but do have a lifting eye....
this is easier to attach the anchor line to than the bow eye for trailering, but to me, still has drawbacks. in my application.
-the anchor line drifts from side to side of the bow light, putting stress on it
-the line also has drifted up the bow rails putting stress on them
-i still have to get up on the bow to deploy or retrieve my anchor
-leaves a mess on the deck from retrieving the anchor
while it's better than the trailer eye. it's still a pain to deploy... best idea i've gotten (from iboats friends) is a short leader line to the anchor. i run it between the trailer eye and the deck eye. the anchor line gets attached to the leader line connected to the deck eye. a extra length of line connected to the deck eye end long enough to reach the cleat back by the windshield when the anchor is deployed. deploy anchor and keep 2nd line aboard and connect to cleat on side of boat. when retrieving. i pull in the anchor line with the extra line i connected between the two to get a hold of the rode. then just pull it in. this only kinda worked for me... it does make it so ya don't have to lay on the deck and reach the anchor line to retrieve it. but it's extra lines and still cumbersome i think... mostly, i just don't anchor up it's such a pain to deploy...
