hi folks,i would like to anchor my speed boat from the bow of my boat so i can fish from it from time to time.the only fittings on the bow at present are a cleat either side of the bow about a foot away from the windscreen and the hook just under the bow,for retreiveing the boat onto the trailer via the winch.i think if i fit a bow roller on the boat,it may look daft.the boat is a 14ft fletcher arrowflyte.i was thinking of fixing a cleat in the middle of the bow about a foot away from the windscreen and maybe a fair lead where a bowroller would be fitted.a bollard would probably look out of place to.has anyone got any ideas ? any replies appreciated :)

i use the bow eye ....bit leaning over and re attaching it all the time is a pain.

you can put a cleat either side of the nav light....about 6 ins back.....

Bolt a single cleat to the center of the bow deck, nearest to the bow. If you bolt it side to side, it looks good and doubles as a handle to help pull the bow up onto the beach. Since it is close to the bow, the line will not chafe the fiberglass hull.

i use the cleat near the windshield, and the guides, i deploy and retrieve the anchor for the side of the boat, and use a boat hook to put the line in the guide, and to take it out for retrieve.

yep, i don't have a cleat, but do have a lifting eye....

this is easier to attach the anchor line to than the bow eye for trailering, but to me, still has drawbacks. in my application.
-the anchor line drifts from side to side of the bow light, putting stress on it
-the line also has drifted up the bow rails putting stress on them
-i still have to get up on the bow to deploy or retrieve my anchor
-leaves a mess on the deck from retrieving the anchor

while it's better than the trailer eye. it's still a pain to deploy... best idea i've gotten (from iboats friends) is a short leader line to the anchor. i run it between the trailer eye and the deck eye. the anchor line gets attached to the leader line connected to the deck eye. a extra length of line connected to the deck eye end long enough to reach the cleat back by the windshield when the anchor is deployed. deploy anchor and keep 2nd line aboard and connect to cleat on side of boat. when retrieving. i pull in the anchor line with the extra line i connected between the two to get a hold of the rode. then just pull it in. this only kinda worked for me... it does make it so ya don't have to lay on the deck and reach the anchor line to retrieve it. but it's extra lines and still cumbersome i think... mostly, i just don't anchor up it's such a pain to deploy...

Re: anchoring a speed boat

I set mine up like Tashasdaddy.

The chocks (guides) on either side will keep the rode in place, a few rapes aroud the cleat to hold the set, and also, a cleat installed to something structural in the helm area to tie off the end of the rode. I kept the extra lrode not used for the set coiled on the inside deck. To udo the set, undo the top deck cleat (while boat is in forward gear) pulling the rode through the chock until I'm over the anchor and go to neutral gear. By then the line will have enough play in it to get it to pop out of the cleat allowing you to pull the achor up along the side.

It was easy as pie for me.

thanks alot for your replies.i'm going to fix a cleat to the middle of the bow about a foot away from the windscreen and 1 inside the boat.fix 2 fairleads or 'chocks, guides'to the front of the bow.1 either side of the nav light.and then buy a boat hook.......i really appreciate all your help as i've only had my boat since may and this anchoring set up has been playing on my mind for around a couple of months.......fixing the cleats will be okay as i can just get my arm under the bow to fix the bolts.i won't be able to do this with the fair leads.will it be okay to just screw this to the bow.

I used those toggle bolts to try and secure a pedestal, the plastic is very fragile and when it breaks the thing becomes useless. Worst 30 bucks(for 6) I spent.
