I have a 24 ft pontoon boat. my problem is where do I tie the anchor too. The boat fits up tight against the rear of the boat.I can't reach the cleats on the toons. It's a Starcraft limited. with a 90 hp two stroke. Last year i used the pole for the rear table. .I was thinking of drilling a hole in the floor in front of the rear seats and putting in a large eye bolt, then hooking the like from there.

Re: anchoring from rear of boat.

Very simple solution is fashion a short dock line with a snap hook at each end. This short line needs to reach from the existing cleat at the back of the 'toon to a hook eye or some other point on the rail that the other end of the line can hook to. When you want to anchor, snap the anchor line to the rail-end of the line and drop anchor. When ready to up anchor you can pull the line up until you can reach it with any type of short pole with a hook in the end. I epoxied a stout hook in the end of golf club shaft that I use as an aid when docking the 'toon. You could also fashion a slightely longer line and use the second one as a "bridle" that stays attached to the rail while the other end stays fastened to the shorter anchor line. You simple grab the line and pull up the anchor. The short line can be snapped to the rail-eye to keep it out of the prop when under way.

Not sure what you are asking in your thread but the title indicates you want to anchor from the rear of the boat. There are very few cases where you should anchor from the stern. And nearly all of them will be in addition to an anchor on the bow.

So my recommendation is to anchor from the bow. This recent thread had an excellent example of how to connect an anchor rode to a pontoon.

Re: anchoring from rear of boat.

I have eye bolts that I use, if we are in a cove...98% of the time I will put my heavy anchor on the bow, and another med anchor on the stern. Pontoons love to catch wind, I use two. You toon should have an eye bolt that you use to trailer tie your boat with, use that in the bow. If you add cleats or eye bolts.....make sure they are grounded very well, you don't want to bend any metal/alum because you didn't back your eye bolts or cleats well. Good luck.

Check "anchor cleat" under this heading. You can install these just about anywhere that there is a crossmember.
