Just got back from the weekend plus at Don Pedro in central cal. Record temps this weekend and water was mid 70's plus still. Awesome way for what I assume will be my last real boating of the season. Well this being my first boat I've owned I am such a newbie its stupid. Although I am steadly learning it's humourous to look back at your mistakes sometimes. Camped for the weekend just like we do at the home lake set my anchor and bouy system with sternline rope as well. I have it set up the cove area where we are camped easy in and out to hook up without having to mess with pulling the anchor in and out all the time. All is good we go out and have a blast that day ASSUMING things are all secure on the campsite never had any problems at home why should I have any here. DUH! Not my home lake. Long story short my anchor and bouy hookup (that I just got) along with my sternline are gone. The stuff at the campsite was all still there (thankfully) but no anchor and no ropes. That sucked but had forsight to at least bring back up anchor in car so weekend was saved and could have been better actually.

We go to Havasu alot same setup as you had but had it by the channel where the locals hang out. Only so we could pick up MIL. she lives in Havasu same thing bouy anchor and sand spike gone lesson learned when we are out on the lake no problems at least not so far. To bad that people have to rip other peoples stuff off. But all in all have met more good people than bad on the water....:)

Sorry to hear that! What a bummer! I've been leaving my anchor set at campsite for last 7 or 8 years with no problem. The lake bottom is awful Georgia red clay which will stick to your feet and stain everything when wading out to boat so I also keep a couple of 2X6's set on 4" and 6" PVC for walkboards. So far, all have been there when we return from being on lake.

I hate people that steal, too bad you couldn't try a set up of some kind. Like set up camp like before, set you anchor system, pack up for the day & go. Only leave someone hiding behind at the camp site & nab them when/if they return to rip off your stuff. Then teach them a lesson, call the cop's, whatever.... I'm just say'n

If there is one thing I honestly can't stand, it's a thief. A good keel hauling or flogging is in order for anyone caught. :D

It makes me wonder twice about leaving my stuff out again but as MRS said I have just this summer alone met so many cool people I'm not going to let a few bad seeds ruin my time. I mistyed in my previous post the weekend I meant to say the weekend COULDN'T have been better. I like the idea of a sting operation but I was thinking more of a good caning when I catch them.

That sucks. Don Pedro, Modesto, Camanche...all too close the the Bay Area...that's the problem. Once you get away from the urban centers, you can leave your campsite (for the most part) without worries. I used the same setup for a week at Union Valley, past Placerville, for over a week, with no problems. Drive the extra hour!

As much as it sucks that it was 'stolen', not so sure that the beneficiary of your system thought he/she was stealing. I think that person thinks "Cool, I just found an anchor setup!".

Just sayin'

They would have to be pretty stupid to think they JUST FOUND an anchor setup right in front of a campsight.

There are plenty of stupid people out there. There are boaters who are stupid enough to leave stuff after they have left (not talking about the original poster). How long was the OP gone from the site? Someone could have pulled up right after he left, and hours later, figured someone forgot it.

It was a theft, I'm not saying it wasn't, but if someone chooses to leave valuables unattended in a public place, they should be aware of the risks involved in doing so.

Re: Anchors away and gone!

I had a similar thing happen at Lake McConnaughy in Nebraska(several years ago), we go up there with 5 or 6 boats and families several times a year so one day I had just too much to drink the night before and all my friends (and my wife) went out without me, well this family of day campers comes in while everyones out and I was inside my camper on the beach enjoying the A/C, I look out to see this family taking in our anchor setup for all 5 boats like they owned it! so I called for backup(the local SO) and went out to confront the family, the SO only took a couple minutes to show up and take them into custody for immigration violations and also several other stolen anchors in their possession.

:D Good for you people that snake other peoples stuff know what they are doing. If you have a camp set up and bouys set it is not that you forgot it and left if you think that you are a thief in my eyes any how....:)
