So, no more "alleged" boat purchase - it's now a done deal. A new-old stock 2010 Monterey 194 FS is now in the driveway. And MUCH thanks to SlipAway for helping a sister out. It's due to him that we even found out about this boat and a killer deal.

The deal was pretty straightforward, although there were a couple of slips. When we put the deposit down over the phone, my husband spoke to the dealer about having the trailer built, and our specs (dual axle, swing away tongue, guideposts mounted on trailer, LED lights, round plug for tow vehicle).

We were told 2-3 weeks to get it done, when we placed the order, on Friday, March 8th. Well, 2-3 weeks became 3-4, and then a bit longer - the trailer shop was really backed up. We were finally told it would be ready on Friday, May 3rd. I called on Tuesday, April 30th to confirm, since I had to take a day off work for us to drive to Southern CA. No reply, just a late-afternoon message on Wednesday night, saying it would be ready. Well, I couldn't go with only giving my boss one day of notice, so we delayed it for a week, to Friday, May 10th.

I called on the 8th to confirm all was well, only to have Chris say something about how we didn't get a swing-away tongue. I almost crawled through the phone in disbelief! We had clearly specified a swing-away tongue, since it wouldn't fit in our garage without one. Further, we'd been told that "all my trailers come with dual axles and a swing-away tongue" on the day we put down the deposit! Argh!

Chris made it right - he called up Extreme Trailers right away, and confirmed that they could correct the error. They agreed they could get it turned around by Friday, as long as we picked it up after noon. So the trailer went back to the trailer shop, WITH the boat on it, for a new tongue. (Note that I did not mention this to my husband until Friday morning!) ;)

So we drove down from the Bay Area after work on Thursday night, stopping halfway to crash at my mom's. Friday morning, we were up, had breakfast, and then drove to LA for a couple of errands for my husband's business equipment. We then grabbed a quick lunch in Burbank, and were on our way to Corona and Tige Watersports by 2 pm.

IT TOOK US TWO HOURS IN FRIDAY TRAFFIC to go from Burbank to Corona. Ugh. But we got there a little after 4 pm. After that, is was nearly smooth sailing - we handed over the money, they handed over the keys and registration, and Chris and my husband did a quick check of the boat.

Another flub when we went to hook up the trailer - Chris had had a square pin connector installed on the trailer. Happily, he had a round connector in stock, and swapped it out in minutes. Hooked up our van, checked out the lights, and we were almost ready to go. We took a brief stop in the Tige Watersports store, and purchased an anchor, a few lines, a couple of fenders, and the Coast Guard pack - Chris gave us 20% off everything we bought, since we'd purchased the boat.

We then drove back to my mom's, getting there about 10:30 pm. We stopped once along the way, and I snapped this pic:

Once we got home, we discovered that the ski locker was missing one of the included pieces of canvas (the cockpit cover, which Chris thought was stowed in the locker, along with the bow cover). I emailed him about it, and he's shipping it to us right away. Moral of the story: even if it feels OCD, check everything that it supposed to be included before you drive away!

So now it's home, we're home, and it's on the wrong side of the house. :D Not sure when we'll drop it in the water, but certainly soon.

Thanks again to everyone who put up with my queries, and a special thank you to SlipAway for his help and suggestions!

I was wondering when you were going to get around to making the announcement. Again, congrats and enjoy your new boat. I'm confident you will. :thumb:

I like the color choice :joyous:

You made _GREAT_ time. Consider yourselves lucky, that should have been a 3+ hour drive.
Congratulations on the boat. After all that hard work you and Microsoft Excel has put into this purchase, I'm thrilled you guys finally ended up with what you wanted. Congratulations again and splash that boat already! :D

you said he used a square (flat) 4 pin connector. however it being a double axle trailer it should be equipped with brake axles. (its law in georgia anyway) so does it have surge brakes or no brakes at all. if it has electric brakes it would have had a 7 pin round connector any way for it all to work.

There WAS no color choice. ;)

And we were sad that we didn't have more time - I would certainly have bought you lunch, for all your support and help, if we'd had time. As it was, I texted a pic to my sister and BIL in Redlands. Apparently, he recognized Tige Watersports as a SoCal dealer, and called me on Saturday to chap our hides about not getting together with *them!* We couldn't make ANYONE happy with such a quick turnaround trip!

If you're ever in the Bay Area, let me know - we'll stand you to a meal and a jaunt!

It has surge disc brakes, but not *electric* surge brakes. And yes, it should have had the round connector, but that's not how it was built. Happily, an easy and quick fix, while we were at the boat dealer's shop.

Unlikely until June - DH is closing down his shop due to the landlord evicting 30+ businesses, and he's moving a 6000SF warehouse full of equipment between now and the end of the month.

It was a miracle he agreed that spending 2 days picking up the boat was do-able. My pledge now is to do nothing to stress him out through May 31st. After that, we WILL be getting it in the water! ;)

Moving always sucks. I hope you guys find a slow Wednesday afternoon soon so you can take her out for her maiden voyage.

Sandi, my apologies for letting the cat out of the bag about your new boat. I was not sure if you were going to let everyone know.
I know you had no choice on color, but white is easier to maintain than a colored hull, and does not show water spots as easily.
All 4 of our boats have been all white, and I would not have it any other way. You will love the V8. I know we do.

Have a great boating season.

Dude, no animosity at all about spilling the beans - given the issues getting the trailer, it just felt like a potential "jinx" until it was all done! We're just grateful to you, with thanks for the PM that led us to our boat! :D Nice to be part of a community that looks out for one another - it's the best part of boating, IMO.

And I will use the line about water spots with DH, when he's yearning for his "but red is the fastest color!" boat. ;)

VERY happy we were able to find a boat with the V8 that DH wanted. :D
