So, no more "alleged" boat purchase - it's now a done deal. A new-old stock 2010 Monterey 194 FS is now in the driveway. And MUCH thanks to SlipAway for helping a sister out. It's due to him that we even found out about this boat and a killer deal.
The deal was pretty straightforward, although there were a couple of slips. When we put the deposit down over the phone, my husband spoke to the dealer about having the trailer built, and our specs (dual axle, swing away tongue, guideposts mounted on trailer, LED lights, round plug for tow vehicle).
We were told 2-3 weeks to get it done, when we placed the order, on Friday, March 8th. Well, 2-3 weeks became 3-4, and then a bit longer - the trailer shop was really backed up. We were finally told it would be ready on Friday, May 3rd. I called on Tuesday, April 30th to confirm, since I had to take a day off work for us to drive to Southern CA. No reply, just a late-afternoon message on Wednesday night, saying it would be ready. Well, I couldn't go with only giving my boss one day of notice, so we delayed it for a week, to Friday, May 10th.
I called on the 8th to confirm all was well, only to have Chris say something about how we didn't get a swing-away tongue. I almost crawled through the phone in disbelief! We had clearly specified a swing-away tongue, since it wouldn't fit in our garage without one. Further, we'd been told that "all my trailers come with dual axles and a swing-away tongue" on the day we put down the deposit! Argh!
Chris made it right - he called up Extreme Trailers right away, and confirmed that they could correct the error. They agreed they could get it turned around by Friday, as long as we picked it up after noon. So the trailer went back to the trailer shop, WITH the boat on it, for a new tongue. (Note that I did not mention this to my husband until Friday morning!)
So we drove down from the Bay Area after work on Thursday night, stopping halfway to crash at my mom's. Friday morning, we were up, had breakfast, and then drove to LA for a couple of errands for my husband's business equipment. We then grabbed a quick lunch in Burbank, and were on our way to Corona and Tige Watersports by 2 pm.
IT TOOK US TWO HOURS IN FRIDAY TRAFFIC to go from Burbank to Corona. Ugh. But we got there a little after 4 pm. After that, is was nearly smooth sailing - we handed over the money, they handed over the keys and registration, and Chris and my husband did a quick check of the boat.
Another flub when we went to hook up the trailer - Chris had had a square pin connector installed on the trailer. Happily, he had a round connector in stock, and swapped it out in minutes. Hooked up our van, checked out the lights, and we were almost ready to go. We took a brief stop in the Tige Watersports store, and purchased an anchor, a few lines, a couple of fenders, and the Coast Guard pack - Chris gave us 20% off everything we bought, since we'd purchased the boat.
We then drove back to my mom's, getting there about 10:30 pm. We stopped once along the way, and I snapped this pic:

Once we got home, we discovered that the ski locker was missing one of the included pieces of canvas (the cockpit cover, which Chris thought was stowed in the locker, along with the bow cover). I emailed him about it, and he's shipping it to us right away. Moral of the story: even if it feels OCD, check everything that it supposed to be included before you drive away!
So now it's home, we're home, and it's on the wrong side of the house.
Not sure when we'll drop it in the water, but certainly soon.
Thanks again to everyone who put up with my queries, and a special thank you to SlipAway for his help and suggestions!
