Should the motor be latched in position when traveling foward? or allowed to float. when it is in reverse we latch it in position. It just seems that when it is in a fixed position all the power lifts the front of the dory out of the water instead of pushing it along. Could any body send me a simple drawing of operation a i am a real novice.

Howdy, Neighbor.

No, the engine should not be latched when in forward. It needs to be free to tilt up upon striking some obstruction. It should be latched by the linkage when you shift into reverse, so that the engine thrust will not cause it to lift out of the water.

How the engine/boat behaves under power depends on much that you have not told us. Please give the details of your boat and engine.

Good luck. :)
