I am making plans to move a GradyWhite 28' from Annapolis to Ocean City, MD via the Chesapeake-Delaware canal. Would appreciate any insight from those who are familiar with all or parts of the trip. I am particularly interested in the usability of the Lewes-Rehoboth and Assawoman canals. Are these worth using or should I just plan to run down the coast to the Ocean City inlet?

I have not been on the canals in a long time (grew up on broadkill beach) near Lewis

i would weight dodgeing comercial traffic VS a clean run in the ocean if you fuel range allows it safely

Watch the weather before attempting the Delaware Bay. The sea conditions change faster than in the Chesapeake and there's precious few bailout harbors. In calm conditions it's a boring run, but that's always better than the alternative!

Stay near (but not in) the channels because there's a lot of shallows- even far from shore. Have charts and proper safety gear, yada, yada, yada.....

Can't help you with the Delaware canals but agree with Tommays- go outside if you can. OC has a good inlet in calm conditions.
