I have a 1992 Alpha 1 Gen 2. I was installing a new set of anodes and found that I can not install the horseshoe ones because the holes in the ends of the trim cylinders are not threaded and they seem larger than the size of the bolt that comes with the anodes. Any idea why this is? Is there some kit that I can buy to remendy this?

There are 2 holes in the rod caps that are not threaded, they are for the spanner wrench with pins used for disassembly and reassembly.
You should have 2 other threaded holes for the anodes. BUT, as I recall, some of the early Gen II drives (the ones with the dipstick in the top and no lube reservoir) didn't have anodes on the cylinders either.

Re: Anode installation

Thanks Don. As always, you know your stuff. I do have an early Gen II (with a dipstick and no reservior). So I guess I can not use those anodes. The kit I bought also included an anode for behind the prop but as far as I can tell there is no where to screw it on either. I assume this is another early Gen II limitation.
I do have shore power and no Mercathod system so I'd like to have as much anode protection as possible. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might retrofit my drive (without spending big money) so that I could attach these anodes?
