Anodes, do I need one?

I did a search on this subject and see there have been a few threads, but none answer my specific question.<br />I'm just restoring my '58 Johnson 18, when I cleaned up the castings for the lower unit prior to repainting I noticed a lot of pitting on the outside, the previous owner had just painted over the pitting with a thick silver paint.<br />I'm thinking an anode would stop this but I'm not sure I need one, the motor will only be used in fresh water and will be kept out of the water when not in use, maybe at holiday times it might spend a few days in the water at a time.<br />I saw a reference to nickel anodes being used in fresh water, is that right, how big should it be, and where do I put it?

You will not need one for the type of use the engine is going to see.
