Anopther Shift Cable Question

I have pulled the shift cables from my 1983 115hp Johnson. As I have a bunch of Bass Pro gift cards, I wanted to see if I could get it there. Anyway, they told me they only carry Mercury parts and could not help me.

I went on their website and the 11' shift cable for a Mercury looks EXACTLY the same as the ones I pulled off my boat.

Can anyone please confirm that they are the same cables? I would love to use uo these gift cards and not spend my $$ if possible.

Thanks,
SM

Re: Anopther Shift Cable Question

I may have just found the answer. I was looking at them on this site and see that the little thumb screw doesn't appear to be on the mercury ones??

Most cables have the part numbers stamped on them within a few feet of the end. Get the part number and you will have little risk of getting the wrong cable.

Re: Anopther Shift Cable Question

Well, I don't know much about Mercs, but I've never seen a Merc cable that looks like an OMC/BRP Johnson cable. Unless, that is, we are talking about aftermarket controls, such as Morse. Those have threaded ends for adapters.
