Still having intermittent spark.Stator tested good for resistance and output test.Couldnt get any output current on the trigger but not that confident with the procedure.Does anyone know which wires to test together.Brown, white, purple for doing the dva test.I also disconected kill switch wires for no change. Not that familier with the 1980 115 mariner. Can the trigger cause intermittent spark?I am also reading .25 volts at the kill switch wires with the ignition on.I know i bypassed that but the spark is that intermittent its hard to tell. The bias circuit in the packs tested out fine and i am wondering what the black box that mounts to where a traditional air box would be,it has the bias wire white with black strip coming out of it.I am asking alot of questions i know but just one more, there are 3 black and yellow kill switch wires and one ends up at a little black cylinder mounted on an angle,is that some sort of trim kill switch? If any one can answer just one question it would be very appreciated.

Re: Another 115 mariner Sparkless question

With the engine NOT started, Not cranking, but the ignition switch turned ON, there should be NO voltage on the black w/yellow kill wire. Disconnect this wire from the ignition switch and test BOTH sides, there should be Zero voltage on either side of the disconnect.

If there is ANY voltage on the ignition switch side then replace the ignition switch as there is a small short allowing voltage to bleed into the kill circuit. This CAN damage the switchbox(s).

While disconnected from the ignition switch test for spark, if still no spark then disconnect ALL black w/yellow wires at the switchbox(s), this will disconnect the tilt kill switch, the little round black tube thing. Retest for spark again.

Remember the system has a minimum cranking speed of 300 RPM, make sure the battery is charged, all cable connections clean and tight, and that the starter brushes/armature are clean, and lightly lube the bushings.

If still unreliable spark then you will need to begin DVA testing the triggers and stator to ensure both are fit for service.
