Another 1967 9.8 ???

When did Merc start using an 8 spline propshaft? And..is it possible to put one in, in place of the 6 spline that I have? Would I have to change the driveshaft or pinion? I see all sorts of props for 8 spline but very few for 6. Thanks in advance for any info.

The change was at serial number 3482753, differant shaft, carrier, gears and I think the housing was differant to change a complete lower unit assembly you have to change the shift shaft on some engines
