Gentlemen,
I have received a 5hp Sea King Outboard motor and am trying to compile a complete information list on the motor. The information that I have gotten off of the data plate is

MODEL NUMBER: GG90020
SERIAL NUMBER: 75X644233

I am attempting to repair this motor for personal use and would like to know the year and/or any information which could help me in this adventure. So far I have only gotten as far as finding an approx. year of 1956 though the model numbers listed do not match mine completely though they are the closest ones. I would appreciate any help that I could get. Thank you.

It's a 57, reverse first two letters of serial number to get the year. Uses J6C plugs I think, gapped at .030, with point gap of .018 or .020...maybe stamped on the flywheel. 24:1 fuel ratio, at least, not 50:1, and uses hypoid in the lower unit. Nice, sturdy motors.

Re: Another 5hp Sea King needing Help.

Thank you for your responses they were very helpful. The next question that i have come up with is the type of oil that I need to use to mix with the fuel. On the cover of the motor it says to use straight SAE 30 weight oil to mix with the fuel in an unreadable amount per gallon. I have never dealt with an older motor so this seems strange to me. Are there any recomendations as to what type of oil I need to use. Thank you for your responses.

Use modern TCW-3 marine oil, in a 16:1 or 24:1 mix.
