Just came back from breaking the law and walloped 2 more deer.
Same road, 1/4 mile down.
Large doe crosses, fawn in tow.
I see 2 more about 100' off the road.
THen I see 2 more jumping back across the road in front of me.

The first one just made a little "tink" sound to let me know she was not afraid of my van.

But the second one wanted to show up the other one. She jumped in front of the van, THUD!
Front left corner this time.
Slammed down to the road, did a full roll to the right, and then tried to convince me she had 8 or 9 legs. Well, that is what it looked like as she was scrambling to get some sort of footing on the ice covered road. She must have slid 100' down the center of the road before falling into the ditch, standing up, running about 20', then just stood there going, "see, your van ain't so tough."

Not a mark on the van. ?
Something tells me she'll be lying low for a while.

If I only had some fish hooks welded to the bumper, they wouldn't get away. :D

That makes 3 hits in 8 days.

Put a set of cross-hairs on the hood roscoe. Improve your aim :D .

I hit a buck New Years Day. $4517.00 in damage to my Siverado. Went back and no buck.

Herself and I was on our way home from an early breakfast. Dark. Just got back on the highway and next thing I see is head and antlers at the port headlight. Then, THUD, THUD, THUD. Just that quick.

Sorry to all you deer hunters out there. Didn't get a chance to count points. :D

Did you start painting the little deers on your door to keep track? :D

You have got to do that, then take a pic of you by the door with the latest kill and send it into one of the huntings mags :D :D :D

I noticed you have not yet slowed down in that 1/4 mile stretch?

It also crosses my mind that perhaps your a marked man...Them deer don't want you ruining thier reputation as king of the collision. If'n that happens people will no longer have a fear of hitting them. ;)

Reading one of the back issues that you posted and stated that you weren't a "deer hunter". Not a bad track record for killing deer. Have you whacked any bucks??? You may make the pope & young record book for the biggest rack hit by a vechicle. Hunting must be great up your way.Bow hunting must be exceptional

Re: Another AAnother bites the dust

Yeah, we have lots of deer around here.
Most of my hits are just glancing blows.
Many many near misses.
Only 2 kills, the doe last week, and a 13pt
buck a few years ago. Both at about 35 mph.
Several times I have had to stop and wait for them to cross.
Idled my way thru them twice when they wouldn't leave the road.
Luckily, I am at work during most of their active hours.

My bro-in-law, uncle, and several from work, each bagged 5 deer during the hunting season. We are in a bonus deer area, if you fill your tag, you can buy additional for $12.

Wisconsin hunters donated over 6000 whole deer to food pantry programs.
And donated over $5000 to pay to process the meat.

Our deer management zone (approx 30 miles by 20 miles), has about 50 deer per square mile.
Hunters harvested over 2000 deer in this area
We have several zones that have a density of 70-90 deer per square mile.

Over 45,000 deer CAR KILLS per year in WI.
These are only the kills, not the collisions.

Hey roscoe, has the CWD subsided up there? I understand you had quite an outbreak of it the last few years.

CWD has made alot of lockers around here quit accepting deer because of the possibility of beef contamination.

And what's with all the deer donated, but lack of funds to process them? That works out to just under 84 cents per deer. :p

Re: Another AAnother bites the dust

Moose, CWD has been limited to a few small areas, in the southern part of the state. These areas are labeled "eradication zones". And the goal is to totally wipe out the deer population in these areas. (good luck)

Massive testing of deer has been done on a county by county basis to identify any areas with CWD. Samples are taken at the registration sites during hunting season. Any area with a positive find gets added to the eradication zone.

Most processors accepted venison for processing this year. Ofcourse, a few have gotten out of processing, but not many around here. Bigger meat processors don't want to mess with venison anyway, so this has proved to be their excuse to get out. Many won't process bison any more, either. Deer from the eradication zones are not accepted into the donation program.

The deer donations are only the ones donated thru the DNR hunter donation program. Hunters must donate the complete deer. I believe the processors donate the processing, and the cash donations help with tranport costs, but don't quote me on this.

Hey roscoe, your first post states you were breaking the law. I surmise speeding, a common traffic violation.

On the other hand, was you running whiskey?? Guns?? Illegals??

Just kidding--lotsa deer here too,-real careful on the way to work as well as home in the dark.

Re: Another AAnother bites the dust

You know those little ultra-sonic whistles that people mount on their bumper that are supposed to scare deer away as you drive?

I hear if you put them on backwards, they attract them.. ;)

No Pat, when I said I was breaking the law, I was doing this:
http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=20;t=003667

I was only doing a little over thirty when I hit the last one, and about 35 when I hit the one last week.

I got little roof whistles on one of my vehicles.
With the number of collisions around here, people just laugh at them.

OBJ, it sure don't look like much damage, till you see the repair estimate.

This is the exact reason I'm driving older vehicles. :(

Re: Another AAnother bites the dust

I was sorta surprised myself roscoe when I saw the estimate. A lot of stuff ya' can't see. The brackets that hold the headlights in are all busted, if you look hard you can see a real good dent in the panel behind the door. Didn't show up real good in the picture. Even the rear stop light cover got a crack. Window will only open half way. Etc. etc. etc.

These darn pictures didn't come up first time. Thought I messed up. Posted them in DockSide to just to see if I did mess up. I dunno. Maybe me. Probably got "Buck Fever". :D
