Looks like I can buy one this year after all. I recently installed a Raymarine DS600x, and I LOVE the crisp, clear, brilliant display. Oh, and did I mention how viewable it is in the bright sun? Even with my polarized sunglasses on!

Now, to the GPS, I need to narrow my list down!

Simrad CX33-E: Supposed to be a very "sunlight viewable" unit, 6” screen, C-Map NT MAX

Si-Tex: 6” or panoramic 7”, is it gonna be as clear as Simrad? C-Map NT MAX

Furuno 7000: Why does it cost more than the 1850, is it a better screen? They’re both 7” screens. C-Map NT MAX

Standard Horizon 175: 6” screen, C-Map NT MAX

One thing I may consider is adding a deep water transducer at some point in time. I don’t think the Simrad will let me do that, will Si-Tex and Standard (with black box)? And the Furuno 7000 list’s something about a black box for the deep water transducer as well.

Navman and Garmin I’m not crazy about. And I’ve read about Raymarine antennae/sensor problems, and the software………………….

Thanks for any input.

Cap'n Mike

Re: Another "Best GPS" question

Luna, I know you don't like the Garmin but I don't think I'd trade it. With my Garmin I can create all my routes (trips) right here on the PC, buoy-to-buoy, can-to-can and download them and the maps to the GPS. While on the boat, I simply pick from a list of places I want to go (from the routes I created) and them follow what amounts to an artificial road right on the screen. I can navigate any area in any conditions with great confidence. I've been out at night on other boats and it's a lot trickier trying to figure out what's going on on a little screen while underway no matter how big or clear... Just my two cents.
