Another boat naming question

My neighbor at the lake just bought a used 'toon. The boat has a little plaque on the console with the boat's name (PO's wife I think) and also the life ring has the name printed on it.

My neighbor's superstitious and is afraid to remove the two items without a proper ceremony. I contend that since neither item is permanent that they can both be removed without fear. Who is right?

A ceremony is most DEFINITELY required!

(Are you seriously going to pass up a chance for snacks and cocktails dockside, on your neighbor's dime???)
