A 32 year old man drowned at a local lake after jumping in to help his son who had fallen over boat from the pontoon boat they were on. As I understand, the man could not swim. The son was OK. The incident occured at Piedmont Lake in Belmont Co., Ohio. His remains have not yet been recovered.

It IS sad...very sad.
They'll find him in 5-6days.
I've been in on way too many of these...if the water is not gin-clear, we get an early alert to be on the water on day 5

That man had the brass to risk his own life, knowing himself, he couldn't swim, to attempt to save the boy...that's a real man, PFD or not.

With all due respect, brass would have been to look "uncool" and wear his pfd. Now his son has no dad. :(

Non swimmers boating without a lifejacket is like skydiving without a parachute. I'm a diver and I wear the dam thing.

Had the same thing here last week. Boat drifted away from a father and son at the dock. Son dove in to retrieve it and drowned. Father jumped in to help and nearly drowned. The son was a Marine back from Iraq.

Ken

Re: Another Boating Tragedy

Had one here where I boat alot. We also had a Jet skier killed a couple weeks back on a local river. I don't remember this many so soon in the year....

Crews from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources spent hours Sunday searching for a missing Centralia, Ill., man in Carlyle Lake.

The Clinton County Sheriff's Department says crews were searching along the shore on the southeast side of the lake between the Boulder Recreation Area and Coles Creek Recreation Area.

The man fell into the water Saturday afternoon while working on the engine of a boat he was riding in. Attempts by two other men on board to save him were unsuccessful.

From his 33-foot sailboat, known as the Casa Cita II, Steve Kratchman, of Webster Groves, says he saw recovery crews at work Sunday morning.

"It was probably around 11:00 when we were down on the lake. They were looking along the shore line. We didn't know what for, but now that we know, we understand why they were looking," says Kratchman.

The Clinton County Sheriff's Department called off the search around 4:30 Sunday afternoon. Sheriff Mike Kreke was unavailable for comment. Officials would not say whether the recovery mission would continue on Monday.

KSDK
