Hi all, I'm wanting to paint my boat, but Ineed alittle info. Spraying is out of the question, so I need other options. I heard the term "roll and tip" I'm not sure what this method is. I assume all I need is to wet sand and clean. It needs alittle patch work ( scratches and pits) and at the bottom of the hull ( where it meets the trailer roller) the fiberglass is completely exposed. Is there any special prep to be done on this? Any in put would be great. Thanks

You can search "roll and tip" on Youtube and get some really good real time instruction on the process. For a novice doing it by him/herself, I'd suggest the roll and roll technique ( using a clean roller instead of a brush for the second part of the roll and tip process ).

As far as the fiberglass goes, if it is just exposed, you can sand it clean, wipe it with acetone really well to remove the waxes that will be drawn out from the sanding process and then use a product like Marine Tex or other types of fillers ( fairing materials as they are known ), or you can mix some cabosol/microballons and resin to make your own filler. You won't find microballoons at the auto store, so you'll want to find a place locally that carries fiberglass supplies...or check out places online. UScomposites.com is a member favorite to use.
