by the way I found some nice outboards being sold on ebay by Iboats. Wasnt expecting that. (plug for iboats)<br /><br />Anyway.. I popped the buy it now on a very clean older honda 9.9hp outboard on ebay. I admit I have very limited knowledge with outboards. <br /><br />Now I must also add that 99.9% of the time I pay for my purchase immediately however in this situation I had to wait for the shipping price info before I could pay. Then when I recieved the info I tried to pay this evening but because of a situation with a hotel maxing my daily limit on my credit card I wasnt able to pay immediatly.<br /><br />Anyway I was mentally grooming my newest purchase and was trying to find out the age of the motor by means of the serial number. It was pointed out by a friend that he thought the first 3 digits B75 meant that it was a 7.5 hp. After a lot of quick research I found out that it was in fact a 7.5 hp motor. <br /><br />I wrote to the owner and let him know that his motor was in fact a 7.5 hp motor and that I was going to have to renig on the bid due to misrepresentation on the auction page. I apologized for hitting the buy it now before doing my research.<br /><br />He replied: <br />"Hi, yes i just looked at it. My dad was told that it was a 9.9 so i assumed that it was. Thanks but i wish you would have checked it before bidding."<br /><br />Yall think I'm wrong to renig??? He seems to think so.

nope<br /> if you bid based on the printed info and later found out the info was incorrect you should not feel guilty for backing out.

Agree with Bondo. Seller should be willing to toss the deal and both walk away without issue. He said it was something it wasn't. While you didn't check the numbers and his error may have been honest, he shoud be willing to call no fault and walk away.

Email him back and tell him that you are sorry for the difficulty but as he was the seller he should have verified the Specs before he placed the auction.

I did something similar one time on Ebay, Missrepresented something. (Not intentional), It was my fault and I had already shipped it. I payed for them to send it back and gave them there money back. Its the sellers responsability to represent the item correctly.

Re: another ebay saga

I appologized for the inconvieniance to him for me not researching the serial before hitting the buy it now and explained I already have a 7.5 and wouldnt have a need for another. The reply I posted up there was my reply. <br /><br />I was just surprised by his answer. Had he answered back nice I would have offered to pay his ebay fee's in return for positive feedback back and forth and he could relist it.<br /><br />I figured all along it was an accidental misrepresentation and never suggested otherwise. Some people. :) <br /><br />Karma kept me from paying for it.. everything happens for a reason they say.

I agree with the others. <br />Just checked out your MiniMax project... pretty neat. Had one of those once. And it screamed with a old rebuilt 35 johnyrude.

If he left neg feedback you can file for a dispute and get it removed from your % positive number but the words will remain. Make sure you respond to the feedback that he left you. Edit: Forget what I said. I see he didn't leave any feedback.

That was his screw-up, honest though it was, and he really should let you off clean. When I am selling on ebay I bend over backwards to make sure the buyer is happy, and I would never try to make someone stick to something like that if I accidentally misrepresented it.

Maybe the seller would agree to 7.5/9.9 of the auction price, which works out to roughly 76%.

Re: another ebay saga

lol I like the way you think dogsdad but I doubt it. I'm sure its probably still worth the buy it now price but I already have a 7.5 so I wouldnt even pay 76% of the price. I always bend over backwards to make sure my feedback rating stays at the 100% postive that its at. But I suppose if need be i'll take the negative. Not paying that price for a misrepresented motor no matter what the value, accidental or not. :) If I was the seller I'd appologize for the mistake and make no bones about it. <br /><br />Link there's a few minimax's going on on this board :) Its a fun lil boat. also saw your signature... what is QRP and why cant I have it. :D
