another fitch question

looking at a boat with a 2000 fitch 225hp on it.<br /><br />read through a bunch of old posts. most say stay away, bad engine, blah, blah. but i didn't see the reasons.<br /><br />i did read about ecu problems, voltage reg problems, updates, and spark issues. can someone calmly explain these if they can? could this engine be fine? is there a way to tell? thanks-

Have a dealer run the Serial number to see if all the updates were completed. Without the updates having been performed, I would be leary.<br /><br />The 2000 model year was just before OMC's bankruptcy. Quality control was seriously lacking, especially components.<br /><br />The FICHT design is basically good and workable. Component quality problems plagued the first ones. 2000 model year included.
