I have a '87 85 hp Force.

I just pulled the plugs out....all 3 are caked with oil deposits. Wet ones too. I cleaned 'em up and torqued them down.

I use fresh 93 oct. alcohol free gas with Penzoil Marine 2-cycle mix. I also used Penzoil Marine fuel system treatment the last two task fulls.

My exhaust is very smokey at idle.

Is it the oil/mix?
Is it the additives?
Is it the mixture setting on the carbs?

Thanks!

Re: "Another Force Mystery" PART II

Clymers, "correct recirculation system operation is vitally important to efficient engine operation. If the system fails...it will result in"
1)poor low speed performance
2)poor acceleration
3)spark plug fouling
4)stalling or spitting at idle
5)excessive smoke upon acceleration
This may be the answer to your problems.
I'd do a though recirculation system check first thing. Have you messed with the carb.?
Did this problem occur after you had done some work on a component?

ChalkBoy after the gas treatment the carbs could be leaned out a bit and it would idle smoothly at a lower idle speed. Two ajustments. After the gas treatment clean or change the plugs. The exhaust is smokey from the additives and the mixture is gradually getting richer.
