Another lower unit compatibility question

This is probably a question for chinewalker...Having seen the pix on his website...<br /><br />I have acquired a 1952 Evinrude 7.5hp, model #4447, which is missing the lower unit. Will a LU from a 1957 or 1958 work with this?<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Matt M

Hi Matt,<br /> No, it will not. The '52 uses a spring clutch for neutral. Used on 1950 to 1953 models, which will all interchange as a unit, but may not interchange at the bits and pieces level. The later units use a full gearshift - different unit altogether...<br /><br />- Scott
