Another Motor Upgrade questions

I am in the middle of rebuilding my 1987 24 ft Party Barge. I currently have an 1987 Johnson 60 hp that runs like a top. Accoring to the boat sticker it can hold up to a 115 hp. If I upgrade to a 115 what type of speed gains would I get. I think now I am about 15-18 mph. I would like to be able to pull a skier and a tube. I can pull a tube now but it is very slow. Any help or experience would be greatly appericated. Or is the 115 not going to have that much return would I be better off spending the money on furniture or adding a 3rd log?

Ditto, what ToonTime says. Going to have trouble pulling up a skier, lots of drag.

Re: Another Motor Upgrade questions

There's no way to be sure without a sea trial, especially on a 25 year old barge, but if your toons are clean and straight you should gain a considerable amount of speed upgrading to a 115 from a
60. I would expect closer to 30 mph. That said, unless you already have something up your sleeve an upgrade that drastic would cost quite a bit, as would adding a third toon, which incidentally would be much less of a know commodity than a motor upgrade in terms of results and cost. I would think it through carefully before dropping that kind of coin a boat that age.
