Hey guys, another new boater here who got sucked in to boating and loving it. A friend took my wife, daughter and I on there boat on a fri night tubing / running around and we a blast. Sat I went to work and came home to find my wife looking on craigs list ( She also found this site:D). IT seemed to be a bad time to look at boats as they seem to sell fast on craigs list and found a bunch of scamers from other states on it. So on the last sat of july I took a day trip up to Loconia NH to look at some used boats at some dealers. First place I went was the last place Thurston marina were I met Jeff who showed me my new boat. Jeff was great guy to deal with and told me he would not sell me a boat with out taking it on the lake first. So know we are an owner of a 2000 glaston 175 sx with a 3 liter mercruiser for $5900.

Glad to here that your wife is in to it too. Makes all the difference when you start to open your wallet for repairs and gadgets that are not really needed but are gotta haves.:D

Sounds like a great boat. Welcome and have fun!

I live in Framingham, and so far we have been putting the boat in webster lake. I would also like to out other lakes or even one of the rivers near by.

check outdrive oil often preferably for me eveytime before you go out. And know the depth of water you will be in talk to people who boat there, get insurance.

I would recommend actual marine insurance not through a traditional company, i.e., State Farm, Allstate, etc. There is a difference in coverage for trailer issues, etc. Worst case scenario, salvage issues. On Lake Cumberland, there was a 28 foot Donzi that sunk, the outdrive gimbel bearing separated and shredded the transom boots. Needless to say, it sunk. The company that did the salvage was a local company to Cumberland and Dale Hollow called Marine Assist. After talking with him I learned that the insurance company paid for the salvage but it comes out of the fair market value (comprehensive) portion of the policy. On an old boat like mine, that salvage recovery costs would take up all the value of the boat, I'd get nothing. I already paid my policy for the year, but, next year, I'm getting actual mariner insurance.

I have always just maintained insurance with the carrier I had for my house, cars, business etc. Not anymore!!!
