Motor in question:
1996 Johnson 3 ltr Looper
J200STLED

I have found that the QV 16V Surface gap plugs start better, runs smoother throughout the whole RPM range!
I rarely run WOT anymore due to the gas prices and when I do the lakes I run on I can get from one end to the other in less than ten minutes!

I like NGK so could I use the BUHXW-1 plugs unstead?

Will this cause a problem in the future?

man i tried going to ngk on my 175 crossflow that uses ul77v surface gap
ran good a higher rpm with surface gap champion .ran alright on the ngk but you have to watch the ngk heat ranges to match one up for your boat
i know use non surface gap champion gl77jc4 and it idles better and runs well

(BUMP)!!!Dehadley

I have used the correct Champion plugs and various gap settings but never got the performance of the gapless plugs. Maybe it is just this engine!
Guess I will try the NGK's and see! You know me, always trying something against the grain!
I wouldn't even have the gapless plugs if the engine didn't have them in it when I bought it. Maybe the previous owner knew something I don't!

I wouldn't run any plug except a Champ in a stock E/J. That being said I was never happy with the performance of the surface gap plugs. I always ended up back with the gapped plugs. In a V6 crossflow I use the QL77JC4 plugs. They always seem to idle well and run top end well. And, never bet on another brand being exactly the same heat range as any other brand. It can get downright expensive.
