After getting skunked last weekend at Lake Arthur (just north of Pittsburgh), I decided to hit the Allegheny river. I had a late start as most ramps did not have their loading docks in the water and it was too cold to get wet when launching...Ended up launching in Freeport, PA and fished buckails, jig heads with grubs, minnows...you name it. SKUNKED! Not a nibble!!!...My fish finder chriped 5 times the entire day...very frustrating. Water temps were 55 and I thought I would land a few smallmouths. Heading back to Arthur this weekend for another shot. I swear I have "fish Away" spray on my boat. Never been skunked 2 trips in a row...ever!!

Re: Another PA Fishing Bust

I haven't caught anything since the last weekend in Oct. And, I live in GA when it is fishing season all year. Main issue was the delimma at the house that didn't allow us out for about 4 months. Then, I was blaming it on the trolling motor because we use the big motor to get right on the spot. Therefore spooking the swimmers. Then we would blow off a spot within 3 casts. Yesterday I had my TM installed. Once I got used to the foot control, (was going in circles and and hitting the speed control to hard, almost knocking me out of the boat) I learned how much the lack of TM hurt me in the past. I was fishing some Christmas trees and tires and a rockpile (one big pile, ultimate cover. In the no wake zone. often overlooked) that were about five feet off the bank in about 9 feet of water. Boat was about 20 feet from the cover. I had one fish strike my Xrap as I was pulling it in the boat. Was about 2 feet off the side.
Upon getting home, I was rifling through this nice bass fishing book, and noticed a blurb that said not to overlook the area off the bank some. Had I done that, I may have done better. Maybe next time I will break this spell. Can't be that I have "fish away" spray on the boat, as I have bank fished some, and been all over the state and have used 5 different rods. What gives.:)

Some of the locals here say there is a curse by the name of "Skippy" that tags along at times. When skippy is in the boat all sorts of things happen, No fish, hook in the hand, motor wont start, hit a rock, it goes on and on. I was out today for a few hours. Managed a couple of dink bass nothing even worth taking a photo. The wind was a killer today, water temps up to about 60. Another few degrees and things should start to pick up a bit.

Skippy got me good. On Saturday, my first day with the TM, I managed to snag my line good. Tore up one of the seals, and now we are waiting on a new one. BTW, one of my four dogs is named Skippy. Well, it is actually named Skipper because he is a Skipperky. But, my younger siblings call him Skippy. When dad picked me up at the lake Saturday, he brought the dog along. Luckily, he didn't get in the boat when I gave my brother a ride before trailering. We were about to let him in though. Wheww. That was close.
