Re: another powerhead swap question

It can be made to fit but theres no easy way to stop the water leak towards the front of the base gasket area.

Any V4 crossflow powerhead is a direct bolt on from 1979 and newer.

These will bolt on too but have a crank with a smaller center main (no real issue -- just an fyi deal);
1977 140
1977 85 & 115 from a 25" midsection
any 1978 V4

Re: another powerhead swap question

Dhadley, I haven't seen many 85hp's around. Does it use the same basic block as the 90hp? Are the parts interchangeable at all? (I.E. intake manifold, heads, crankshaft, linkages, etc.)

Oh, and one other off topic question. I resurrected an old post on the 110hp top main bearing. Any idea where I can get an aftermarket bearing without having to buy the whole darn crank head?

I sure could use some advice right now, 'cuz I'm literally dead in the water.
Thanks!

Re: another powerhead swap question

All V4 crossflows from 1974 & newer use the same basic block casting. In 79 they went to a larger center main on the crank. The 73's look the same but are a year all to themselves as far as the block, crank, pistons and rods go.

The bolt pattern for mounting the powerhead is the same from 1973 to 1977 excluding the 25" 1977 V4's and the 1977 140. Those have the "late model" bolt pattern and were the same thru 1998.

You can "retro-fit" a late model powerhead to an early model mid section (back to 73) by altering 4 of the mounting bolt holes on the base of the late model block. Everything can be bolted up from the older models to the newer blocks.

You can get an upper bearing from about any salvage yard or remanufacturer. Try Flagship (800-282-2840) or Superior Marine salvage (800-338-9281).
