on my 76 850 it was running pretty good just a little rough and it needed a new impeller so i decided to by the impeller and some new plugs. after replacing both items i went to start it and had a hell of a time getting it going but it did get running but then died i was guessing because fuel.... forgot to re hook up fuel hose dumb me. but now im not getting anything when i was cranking it the ground got a little hott from over using it so i just let it cool off. I think i may have screw somthing up. because now it will turn over but no vroom vroom. im guessing to put a spark tester on it to see if that works but any other ideas all i did was the plugs and impeller oh yea when i pulled the old plugs they were real loose could it have been that by them beaing loose the gap was bigger IDK they are the flat plug type.

Re: another problem wont start

I recommend a compression and spark test. Let's see what we are working with.

if it ran good before it should run good again, check the easy stuff,is the handle in neutral? i would check the kill wire first before anything.

OK, Lets make sure what we are working on. That motor has 4 coils, right? Disconnect the yellow stator wires at the rectifier, anf tape the to insulate them from each other and ground. See if spark returns. If not dicsonnect the orange wire at the switchbox and the mercury switch. Mercury switch is a blue cylinder, usually mounted on the front cowling support. See if spark returns.
