My wife an I are new owners of a 2010 Bayliner 185 bowrider we bought used from a local dealer. Other than numerous problems with the dealer (I won't get into here) we have been pleased with the boat. We tried our hand at a little water-skiing, with help from a friend that is pretty good at it, last weekend and I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of the boat. It did not have any trouble pulling me out out on two skis and was not too bad pulling my 200lbs friend out on one. That said, I'd like to see if I can get a little more performance in the form of a better hole-shot, quicker to plane, and hold plane at lower speed. To that end, I ordered a set of smart tabs along with considering a prop change. So, as per the sticky, my info is:

1) Performance issue you are trying to correct.
Better hole-shot and lower planing speed
2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless as a minimum.
Mercury Part Number 832832A45P21 aluminum 3-blade
3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required).
14.25" dia 21" pitch
4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful)
4600 rpm 44 mph
5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP
2010 Mercuiser 3.0, 135hp
6) Boat make model, year, length and weight
2010 Bayliner 185 Bowrider, 19ft, 2368lbs

I'm considering a Solas Amita #1513-143-19 4-blade aluminum 14.25" dia, 19" pitch. Is this a good choice?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Another Prop question

Yes,the solas amita has predictable results. And should have better hole shot, stay on plane at reduced throttle, feel smoother, and handle better at the dock. You will lose a little of your top end.

Re: Another Prop question

Thanks for the quick reply. I've read so much about props the last few days that my head hurts. I figured that dropping a couple inches in pitch and gaining a blade should settle close to 4800 rpm at wot and result in the characteristics you stated (exactly where I wanted to go).

Does anyone know if this swap would require an anode mod/change?

Thanks again.

Re: Another Prop question

A 4 blade is usually slightly less diameter so I wouldn't expect an anode problem.
Both active and passive tabs require careful adjustment. They can result in too much boat in the water, poor handling and speed. Tabs can also help hole shot, ability to stay on plane,
improve ride and help control no wake speed wander.Tabs can use ever so slightly more fuel.
in amounts a flow meter is required to see.
