I just bought a 1995 Spectrum Pro Avenger. It's an aluminum hull and weighs in at around 940 lbs. plus the engine. The listed weight for the engine is 322 lbs. Total = 1262 pounds.
It has a 1995 Force of 90 hp in good shape. It currently has the standard 13 X 19 aluminum prop on it and that appears to be propped about as good as it gets. Redline is 5250 and I get 5200 rpm with half a tank of fuel, all my fishing gear and just me in the boat.
I have two speedo's in the boat. One is the standard water pressure speedo off the engine and the other speedo is from the dash fishfinder. It's the kind that has the little paddle wheel on the bottom of the transom. The dash speedo says I'm getting around 40 flat out but the other speedo says about 37. I'm assuming the fishfinder speedo is probably a little closer to accurate.
I'm just curious if I could get a few more mph out of it. Being an aluminum hull and it has no step, I'm sure it's not built for speed so am I up against a wall here?
I'm very happy with the boat and if that's what it does, that's fine with me as well. I certainly don't want to spend a gozillion dollars only to gain two or three mph. How much difference would a stainless prop make? Or perhaps a 4 blade?
I just wanted to get the experts opinions.
Thanks
