The adjustable bar that the engine tilt rides on when lowered was replaced by the previous owner with a thredded bolt. It was so rusted and tight that I couldn't budge it even with heat and a large punch. I ended cutting it off and grinding it down so that I can put in a new bar. He had it on the second set of holes, but it needs to be on the third. If I can't replace that bar from a Johnson parts dealer, what can I use instead?

Re: Another question for 1983, 9.9

I'd find some round stock the right size at the hardware store and cut it to length, heat up the end with a butane torch and a hammer and vise, then bend the end into an "L" with about an inch on the foot of the "L". Then, I'd carefully drill a hole in the other end that I could put a cotter pin through. I'd put a washer in front of the cotter pin.
I would think you could get one cheap, though, over the internet.
Just an idea,

You can replace it. Call sea-way .com in Seattle WA and ask them for a thrust rod for your motor. Have your model number handy. When you get one, keep it greased with Triple Gaurd Grease.

Thanks, I'll try to order one first. If that doesn't work, I'll go with the round stock.
