any suggestions… I am trying to drop the LU by having removed the PH , removing the upper shift rod retaining bolts but now the shift rod won't release pass the shifter and drop down with the LU

tried protecting the threads & tapping/wacking on a bolt face installed on the tip of the shift rod threads but to no avail.

tried adding loose nut stuff on the shift rod threads and shaft itself but it like the rod is stuck hard and won't slide down

If both (2) nuts are off, it should slide out. If it won't, that's unusual. I've worked on many, many, of them in salt water area without seeing one that won't come apart.

i'll try some heat or something to induce some capillary effect on the release agent i'll let it soak a while

this fresh water motor is new to me and apparently in great condition …. coils were original and...cracked

motor is smooth turning, carb was fairly clean considering it's age. The pressure tank is good shape so i'll keep this one original...for now

thanks for feedback

Hm.m.m., forgive me but I'm just wondering. Are you trying to push the shift rod down and out? Maybe it is already all the way down? What you should be doing is rotate the shifter handle to lift the connector pin up and off the shift rod end (with a bit of wiggle to disengage it)

with the LU bolts out and dropped a inch or so the shift rod is not slipping out of the small square block
under the 2 brass nuts

I have done a few with no issues but this one is stuck hard for some reason ??? I re installed the 2 nuts to protect the threads on the shift rod end less about 1/8 inch to allow downward mouvement to release the rod by wking it with a small hammer but the rod did not slip down the 1/8 left under the 2 nuts

if it moves down I'll remove the 2 nuts and be home free to do the impeller

the rod shaft has been soaking all night i'll try in PM and report back… may try heat then a freeze blast

Dollar store ($3) keyboard air blast cans held upside down are pretty frigid

well finally got it to drop by prying (supporting ) the mating square block on the shifter and hitting the protecting bolts on the end of the shift rod. a few wiggles and the LU came down.

:)… on my way to reviving this jubile

found 2 missing carbon seal parts
in the LU
. Reglued with crazy glue wrapped around with 3 layers of fiberglass tape and epoxy ..it is probably stronger now that is has ever been
