another question on my sea king

Sorry for all the questions,but i dont know much about outboards....i hooked up my 68 6hp sea king to gas,3 pulls and it started right up.....i did not see any water come out of the pee hole so i stopped running it.....i had it in nutral....does it have to be in forward for the water to start comming out of the pee hole?

If it is a air cooled, like an Eska, then the drive shaft to the lower unit does not turn in N so the water pump impeller, just above the gear case won't pump. Things to watch for is at some point impeller will fail and be sure to check lube in gearcase. It will need seals sooner or later.

If it is a Chrysler, it should be pumping water. Clintons didn't have a neutral, so it isn't that. Eska??

I have a 1980 seaking 5hp. I have taken it mostly apart. On mine, the impeller is run by the driveline that runs the prop. So, it only would pump water if in gear.
