Another Referb Question

Prior to repainting the topsides I removed all the stuff that prior owners thought was necessary and/or cool. Alas, there are many many mounting holes drilled in the topside metal. What's the best way to fill those?

Thanks.

Re: Another Referb Question

Many people have went with JB weld for small holes, and an aluminium backer and JB weld for the bigger ones. I was thinking of just using some old gutters cut up in small squares with out paint for the backers or some aluminium flashing. I'm sure other's will chime in with better ways, but it is just what I have read and plan to do. :D

I used this tube of putty made by loc tite. You mix it together to make a uniform past then fill whatever you need. I also used it to adhere the backing plate and fill over the top with it. It seems easy to use and also very sandable. I used it bacoause of the price difference between it and jb weld. But I have no idea about longevity. Heres a pic of the stuff. I also know about filling holesn:mad: my PO had 18 rod holders in the boat.

Re: Another Referb Question

i've used both JB weld great for small holes or marine tex if i'm doing many holes or larger holes. Note anything over 1/2 an inch i generally used some aluminum backing.

This marine tex is nice and sands better in my opinion than JB weld.
