sorry guys for asking this question but i am stumped... I tried to look up the serial number on mercurypartsexpress.com. but not coming up with anything. serial # 3 62 0623 its a mercury 850 85hp outboardView attachment 134437View attachment 134438

There are no stupid questions.

S/n is 3620623

Presuming that yours is a four cylinder, it comes up as:

85 850 4-cyl 3493913 3865694 1973 USA
