Another Shift shaft Question!

I have an '82 Mariner 25 hp ss that I had to replace the lower unit on. I purchased a used one. Installed it the other day. Took it out to the lake and it seemed to be just fine. Spitting a nice stream of water, shifted nice, but when I got to full speed, NO WATER!!! She was running pretty hot already, slowed down to a troll and got water again. That is one problem. If anyone has any theories, let me know.

I get back home, drop the lower unit again, check out the impeller, everything looks fine. In the process, I must have pulled up on the shift shaft and now it is stuck up. I can't push it back down at all. And to reinstall the lower unit, I have to get up back down so that I can connect the linkage. Here is a picture of the lower unit to help show what I am talking about.

Thanks in advance for any help. Paul

Re: Another Shift shaft Question!

Well, with the aid of a 12 pk. of Bud Light, I was able to get the shaft back down and get the lower unit installed. :D

I took my two oldest sons out fishing this morning and am still having an issue with water not coming out of the motor when accelerating faster than a troll. If anyone has any ideas as to why I have water at idle and when trolling, but not if I accelerate much faster.
