I recently installed Smart Tabs on a 2004 Alumacraft Navigator 165CS which is a very stern heavy boat. It was originally powered with a 40 HP Evinrude that obviously struggled to get on plane but otherwise performed ok. As it turns out, I repowered the boat with a 75 HP Merc two stroke before any testing was done with the Smart Tabs. Today however, with three big guys in the boat I was absolutely amazed at how this boat jumps on plane. It is stable, and the lake I was on today was rough but the ride was very comfortable. A short 40 MPH blast with no timming was smooth and comfortable. The best part was this rig would now stay on plane at 14 MPH with the three big gents behind the CG (me at the helm and two others at 200# plus behind. I'm a happy boater. The tabs are set at their mid point and I have no intention of changing anything at least at this point.

I have them, and it made my boat plane with people in it... spent 1/2 hour plowing with 5 people in the boat in pouring down rain.... now it pulls up and planes out perfect... still underpowered and slow but faster than plowing :D

I think you might have some water logged in your foam floatation Wimper, that verado should plane out that canoe at just off idle. Have you weighed it? How much was the tiller conversion?

Wimpers boat:

Draft with outboard up - 3 inches.
Draft with outboard down - 3 feet.

I reckon it's stuck in the mud.

I installed a set on my 1975 Cobalt Tri-hull two weeks ago and it's like I have a different boat. I no longer have to stand up when I'm accelerating and it's super-stable when I'm running at idle (it wandered terribly before). Best investment I've made so far on my new toy.
