another speed question 7.5HP 12' f/g cartopper

I've never had a little fishing boat before...seems painfully slow, but I wonder.<br />1962 Scott 7.5 running well and the boat weighs about 100lbs. I'd say?? not sure. I weigh 185 and I have to throw about 60 lbs of gear in the front to get the planing angle right...even on the innermost pin position on the motor. I'll GPS it next time out.. maybe I need to go on a diet..

From the cottage (checked with GPS):<br />12' tinny with a 4hp Johnson weedless - 6 knots (11 km/h) when it's just me and everything is totally balanced. Usually more like 5.<br />14' tinny with a 6hp Johnson (modern) - 14 knots (26 km/h) with me + ~200lbs of passangers.<br />You should be going fairly ok unless there's something I don't know about the Scott. Hey hystat,<br /><br />I just got back from B.C.. While there I rented a old 14 foot lund with a newer 8hp 4 stroke mercury on it. The boat was very light, had no floor only a couple aluminum bench seats. With myself and my girlfriend. I had in going 18kmph(about 11 mph) on my handheld gps.<br /><br />Keep in mind this boat was a rental in rough shape, so who knows how well it was set up.
