another steering question

I have a 21ft chris craft with what i'm told is FULL power steering on the I/O and it snakes(constantly back and forth)in the channel at low speeds.The question i have is can i just remove the belt fron the power steerin pump and make it no power steering or will this screw things up. I can still turn the outdrive while it is on land fairly easy without the engine running at all.

You may or may not know that the snaking is ?Deep V Wander? and is due to the hull geometry ? Nothing to do with the outdrive or the steering. As far as running with the belt off, I don?t know.

It also has to do with a single prop. BIII and Duo-props counteract this issue.
