Ok here I go: Purchased 1984 Evinrude 115 from ebay this weekend, removed lower unit after removing lower carb. No problem. Removed two nuts from front, two bolts from front. went to remove two nuts from rear, one came off fine the other un threaded stud and then came out attached to stud. ok ,. I can deal with that later,. removed 3 eleven mm. screws from rear as well (as I am fully dissesembling engine for repaint, so I will be removing exhaust plate.) Now for the six main bolts. They are completely stripped by rust, try using a dremel to reshape them for new wrench size, but they were WAY TO GONE! So I decided (probably stupid idea) that I would grind all six of the heads (what was left) off to facilitate them sliding (yeah right) through the exhaust plate and then removing them with a pipe wrench. Nightmare question number one: Are these bolts shouldered or full thread? If there full thread Then I will need to find a shop to weld something onto these studs and prayerfully unthread them out. :mad: If they are shouldered (God willing) I will be able to slide them out. :D I have been torching them for several hours and hitting with various heavy hammers and brass rod, carefull not to mushroom the studs but to no avail. :confused: I found two screws at front going into exhaust housing, again 11mm. And loosened these as well as my lower swingarm mounts. now the swingarm is off.
Question 2: Is there anything at all other than corrosion, stopping my powerhead from lifting off. Right now it is hanging upside-down and I have soaked with penatrating oil. (PB Blaster)
I don;t care it the thing seperates at exhaust plate to midesction or exhaust plate to powerhead, as long as i can get enough stud to turn with a pipe wrench the rest should come apart easy :p . Any one have any new suggestions? Ill try anything. Please keep in mind powerhead is good, so is everthing but the stripped cut down cheap bolts they used to keep it together. (oh well at least there doing there job, probably tooo well... :D )

The long bolts on each side are shoulder bolts JC. It sounds like all thats holding the thing together is corrosion. Do you have a shop hoist to lift the block with? It would help. If you can raise the block so that the midsection is more or less hanging from the head, it may pop lose. Try to keep it straight.

They can be nasty. Perservier, use penetrating oil, heat and foul language in large quantities, and a few cold ones don't hurt either.

Thanks OBJ;
After much foul language, some cold ones and a can or two of Pd blaster I finally was able to pry one 1/4 inch of space on the rear side. I'm leaving the unit hanging upside down over a foam mattress tonight and I'll take a wack (or twenty :D ) tommorow morning. I'm hoping by leaving it upside down some of the pb I sprayed on it will seep in with gravity, but a little give is better than none. i'll flip it upright in morning and keep going, I'll let you know how it goes.
