Another tach question??

Hello guys,gals Im wanting to use my 89 model tachs that were running off a 89 125 force engines I now have 130 yamahas 96 models can these tach be used with the yammies if so please post some directions if possible.Im kinda ok with the wiring just need some insite to get started. Go to www.teleflex.com and go to their tach section.<br /><br />They give excellent descriptions, tach position setting for all motors and other good "tach stuff".<br /><br />Hopefully, it will help you.

Thanks I got the info from there. If I had a teleflex tach I could hook it up but I need to know If someone knows if my existing us marine tachs that ran off the forces will work theres no pole switch on the back of the tachs thanks again for link.

I think you force had a 20 pole stator which required a dedicated tach. It won't work on the Yamaha.......sorry

Hi <br />I have a Marina 75 hp 1984.<br />How many pole's does it have..?.<br />The stator have 8 wire coils, is that 8 pol or 16 pol ?.

Does anyone know what exactly the switch on the back of a tach does to change pole count.I know this is an engeneering question but curious minds want to know

Depends who makes the tach. Some use the switch to insert different resistor values in series with the meter movement when using a schmidt trigger circuit. others select a different "dividing down" circuit when using a digital to analog convertor chip.<br /><br />and to answer the next question.....of course I'd try to modify your tach! what do you have to loose! But you must have some way of calibrating it....<br />
