1996 Force 120hp.

Trim just stopped working. took a test light, have power on both wires going to the motor when the switch is moved up/down.

what are my options on fixing this. was working fine, then just stopped.

Re: another tilt/trim question

when you say power to both leads I assume this means power to one when switch is "up" and power to the other when switch is "down". If so then make sure ground is good. make a jumper wire. hold switch up. one wire should be positive and the other grounded. Use your jumper to create a known good ground to the second wire. If motor works then grounding is bad. If motor does not work then it got water in it and needs to be repaired or replaced.

Re: another tilt/trim question

Thanks...talked to the mechanic and he basically said the same thing...could just be the relays....when 1 wire is hot, the other should be ground....he said I could unplug the wires, run jumper wires from battery to the motor wires and motor should go up/down depending on which side I have the pos/neg. If it moves, it's not the motor but most likely the relay.

once again, thanks!

Re: another tilt/trim question

replaced trim motor, pump was good, no leak downs, added new seals, added tilt/trim switch to motor cowling (little spot for it and wiring harness plugged right in).

super easy to replace once got the motor lifted high enough to put the tilt lock lever...
