I got this used trailer from a person that had a 14' flat bottom jon on it. My boat is 12' long,so I put the boat on the trailer and left about 2 to 3 inches of the bunks extended past the back of the boat. I then moved the winch crank up two feet to meet the bow. Now everything sits and looks great except I have 55" from the ball coupling to the bow of the boat. is this going to cause a problem, with all the weight at the back of the boat? I hear you should have about 10% of the boat on the ball? It doesnt take much of me pushing down on the back of the boat fully loaded to lift the the tongue? my boat is a jonboat too.

Ahoy, Suzi.

Most trailers have the axle and springs mounted to a carraige that is then mounted to the frame.

The reason is to deal with problems like yours.

Find out how your carriage is mounted, loosen it and move it back until you have at least 50, better 75lb on the tongue.

good luck. :)

Honestly that thing is so light it won't matter about the tongue weight. I had a 14' jonboat on a trailer and I couldn't even tell it was back there driving my Cherokee.

Strap it down, and go drive.

Re: another trailer question?

40,

Just make sure your ball/hitch combination match and it is tight. It should have some play, but not much. You can also place a lock or just a bolt and nut thru the hole on the hitch so the latch won't come open when you hit a bump.

It really doesn't matter how far out the back end your supports are as long as there is enough under the boat to do the job. I guess if they stuck out 2 feet that would look strange but they would protect your engine when backing up!!! :p

As far as the tongue weight. Mount your spare tire up there a leave it at that. You can also purchase a tongue jack and that will add a little wieght and add to the convience of moving your trailer.

One of the key things when pulling any trailer is just REMEMBER it is back there and check on it!
