Another VRO removal question - What about the fuel filter?

So I yanked my bad VRO pump and converting to premix on my J40ECCS. I'm using a 0438556 pump. What is everyone doing about a fuel filter? I just cant seem to find room. Even in all the pics of VRO removals @ iboats I don't see anyone using fuel filters?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

Use a small plastic 'in-line' filter. Like a 35-816296Q2

The best thing to do is mount a water/separating fuel filter in the boat.

I was going to suggest that, but figured with a 40hp he might be running remote/portable tank fuel lines directly into the engine... If it's a built-in tank, definitely...

If he's running a portable tank he can still plumb in a quick disconnect for the fuel line before the filter. That way he could have the water/separating filter which is good with todays fuels.

If you want to do it that way (and it's actually the way I'd do it if it were me anyway. I rarely suggest how I'd do things because I'm a bit anal...) Set up would be like this....

Run a 'permanent' line from a water sep fuel filter mounted somewhere convenient to a primer bulb near the engine, then a fitting up to the engine... put an engine style connector on the inlet side of the filter and plug your normal portable tanks into the system there... Just remember that you prime the engine from the primer in the permanent line, NOT the tank line. You want to pull the fuel through the filter, not push it....
