Hello all, I do not post a whole lot but I do alot of research on this great website.
I have a 1996 SeaRay 250 Sundancer with a 5.7L Bravo 2 drive. Rebuilt motor 3 years ago when purchased. I do not have alot of detail as far as the work that was done. I bought the boat in Dallas and live 8 hours South in Texas. It has not froze here in 8 years.
Anyway, I used the boat every weekend this year. In May started the boat on muffs and it over heated. changed impeller and housing and it was fine. In June, noticed excessive noise in the outdrive. Pulled it and changed the gimble bearing, bellows, lube and gaskets. When I did the drive work i noticed a piece of metal which I now know was a shutter in the exhuast bellow. Also a chunk of burnt rubber. I took the boat to the lake after that and it lost power. Looked and noticed milky oil. The dip stick did had less than a extra quart in it. I check the oil level every time I go out. I noticed it only has milky oil when I put it in the lake, not on muffs.
Last week I pulled the risers and elbows off and both shutters are gone. Again, I found one, dont know where the other is. Gaskets look good as the risers and manifolds. Always fresh water.
The boat has not overheated since I changed the Impeller/housing and thermostat.
My question is, can the flappers cause this? I can replace them easy enough. Or should I be digging deaper into the motor looking for bigger issues?
Thanks
