Hi everyone. I have another what motor size question. I have a 21ft Chris Craft 216WAC (Walk Around Cuddy) weights about 2500lb with a V-Hull. It has a 200HP Mercury Black Max on it right now that the previous owner had taken apart and broke off 5 of the mounting bolts in the power head and while he attempted to remove one he cracked the inside wall of the engine where the bolt attaches. So I am trying to decide whether to fix this or just find another used motor.

I know what the coast guard formula for determining max HP to put on a boat but what I would like to know what is the minimum I could possibly install on this boat that will still get me out to diving sites w/o taking all day and can get the boat up to plane?

I have an eye on a Johnson 1976 140HP for real cheap and he can show me that it runs. Would this engine push my boat? If not what should I look for in regards to replacing the motor?

I am posting pics also. Hopefully it will help for getting good feedback.

Is there a capacity plate on the hull? If so, 3/4 of max power is a pretty good rule of thumb. I think that 140 Johnny would work OK, however, you will need to change the controls and wiring to make it work.
