How do you tell what year this unit is? Mine is a Suzuki DT2 0201 SN 899020, just picked up good running clean long shaft for $100, do you know the year?

<br /><br />Could be a 1988 or 1998.<br /><br />For 2-strokes the color can help determine also:<br />Light grey engine: 1983-1988<br />Grey-green: 1989-

Thank you - Another question about the long shaft. I see it has a six inch or so extention in the lower unit. Is the drive shaft all one length on this and the long shaft lower end piece can not be removed to make it a short shaft? <br /><br />Another way - To make this a short shaft, would I remove the extra section and have to replace drive shaft with a short one, anything else?

Hi again,<br /><br />You could check some at brownspoint Parts list for DT2 and see of You can find out if it is possible to make a long shaft to a short shaft. <br />The DT2 was available in long and short shaft<br />(DT 2SJ, DT 2LJ)<br /><br /> Link <br /><br />My best guess: unless the drive shaft can be changed or made shorter easy it is probably not worth to even try the conversion to short shaft. <br />But You could buy or make a bracket so you can use the long shaft outboard on a short transom.<br />Just search with Goggle or similar how a bracket can look like.<br />You want the anticavitation plate to be level with the keel line as You probably know.
