Another what year is it

I am the proud new owner of a mercury outboard. That being said can some one tell me what i have here transom bracket #4869018 Welsh plug #5976270. It has this # stamped in the lower unit B8f2531528 RH. This is a pic of the cover it that makes any difference.

Don't hold that rude against me please.

This is the only number out of the three that worked for me, But that 486 number sure looks like it would be a serial number also.
ENG: 05976270 Model Number:1225620 MERCURY 225 ELPT
1980 MERCURY 2.4L 225 ELPT

That helps a lot thank you. This is a dumb question but what are the differences in the 200 and 225. Seams as though they used that 2.4l a lot is there any way to tell other then the # carbs, exhaust I am new to mercs and the way they do things.

To be honest I'm not really sure, I really never did keep up with the history of outboards, Sorry.
Hopefully one of the good outboard guys will find this and help you out better then I can. Good luck with it.
