Another Winterizing Question

I just got a 15' cc boat with a 1985 40hp Mariner outboard. It is now too cold to take it out, and I don't expect I'll get it out again until March. I need to know what I need to do to keep it safe until then. I have very limited skill(I know where the spark plugs are ;) ). The last time I had it running, I pulled the fuel line and let it run itself out of gas. What else should I do? Also, the steering was pretty stiff. Is there some sort of adjustment for that, or is it just suppost to be that way? Thanks for your help!

drain the lower unit, add new Oil your steering cable, hope for the best<br />Might take the plug out a spray some fogging oil down in them. Your choice

Re: Another Winterizing Question

There is a winterizing FAQ on the main "Repair and Maintenance" page, under "Engine FAQs"<br /><br />Only one thing to add to the above post, probably obvious, but be sure to refill the lower unit with proper marine gear oil after draining. <br /><br />Good luck, <br /><br />Dennis

Put some stabil in the fuel remaining in the tank... If you can still run it on the muffs it wouldn't hurt to run the engine with the fuel after it has the stabil added... You can also fog the carb throats during that process then fog the cylinders...<br /><br />Replace the lower unit lube...
